Golden State looks to eclipse Pittsburgh's mark for longest postseason win streak in major US pro sports

The Golden State Warriors took a 3-0 lead in the NBA Finals after a thrilling 118-113 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.

With their 15th consecutive victory, the Warriors have the longest postseason streak for any team in the four major professional sports.

Cleveland needed everybody at the top of their game Wednesday night and for everything to go their way to win Game 3, and it did - for 44 minutes and 51 seconds.

Kevin Durant (left) shoots the defining three-pointer over LeBron James.

James scored 39 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.

"Kevin Durant is a once in a lifetime player", Thomas said, "I don't think our league has ever seen a player like a Kevin Durant who is so unique".

"I thought our team scrapped and competed", Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said. "And for that to go in was just liberating".

On James' play, he did what he's done so many times: got the ball on the perimeter, made a move to the basket, drew the defense and found a shooter. The Cavaliers did a much better job attacking the paint, particularly LeBron and Irving, but the Cavs shot 7-of-25 from outside the paint so the Warriors could pack it in a little.

But Durant was not going to be denied. Durant has been all that and then some in this year's finals against the Cavs, averaging a series-high 34 points to go along with 10 rebounds and six assists.

Wednesday's NBA Finals game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors proved one thing, and one thing only: No matter how well the Cavs play, and they played really well, they can not win this series, let alone a game.

Irving missed an off-balance 3-pointer and Durant and Curry each made two free throws on the next Golden State possessions to seal Cleveland's fate.

And in Game 3, no one gave more support for James than Irving. His teammate Kyrie Irving scored 38. The OVER is 7-1 in Golden State's last eight games. James shook it off, got up and slowly walked to the bench, and moments later drove for a layup. In part that was because Klay Thompson was white hot early and had 16 in the first quarter including going 4-of-5 from three. Close throughout, with superstars on both teams playing at superstar level.

"We want 16 wins".

"We had some really good looks".

"We have to come out with an unbelievable mindset, unbelievable focus like we have and limit some of the things they're comfortable at".
