Congress heads back to work after shooting
The wife of a man who shot a US congressman and four others at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia said she had no idea he was going to the Washington D.C. area to commit such a horrific act, KTVI in St. Louis reports. James Hodgkinson, who was 66, died of gunshot wounds suffered in a shootout with police.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was wounded along with four others.
Back in IL at least one friend of Hodgkinson - who didn't give his full name - defended him, saying, "I just want to let people know he wasn't evil, that he was exhausted of some of the politics going on". "It sounds really terrible, but I'm not surprised", she said. "She had no idea he felt as strong as he did", Wagner said.
But she maintained there was nothing she could have done about it.
He allegedly dragged his 16-year-old foster daughter by the hair and beat her, before punching her female friend in the face and hitting a boy in the head with his shotgun, court documents show.
According to the Guardian, when she was asked if she'd like to say something to the victims, Sue Hodgkinson replied, "I don't even know who was shot". His father said he's OK, and Rep. Williams said that his staffer had already been released from the hospital and would make a full recovery.
She added her husband hadn't told her much before he left, but he made clear plans to leave, selling nearly everything he owned from his businesses.

The FBI, ATF, U.S. Capitol Police and Alexandria Police said Thursday that said the shooter's weapons were a 9 mm handgun and a 7.62 caliber rifle, which he appears to have purchased legally.
She said she believed he was going to return to the Metro East from Washington soon because he was out of money. "We may have our differences but we do well in times like these in times like these that everyone who serves in our nation's capital is here because above all they love our country", said Trump, speaking from the White House's Diplomatic Room.
