May has announced a judge-led inquiry into what happened, and on Friday promised £5 million ($6.4 million, 5.7 million euro) for emergency supplies, food and clothing.

A woman touches missing person posters near The Grenfell Tower block, destroyed by fire, in north Kensington, West London, Britain June 16, 2017.

Emergency inspections will begin as early as this weekend as the authorities receive the preliminary findings of fire investigators as to what the uncontrollable spread of the fire in Grenfell Tower, which was supposed to conform with existing safety standards stipulating that a fire should be contained in its original flat for up to an hour to allow the evacuation of residents.

"We are not given information about our loved ones", she added.

A fire safety expert said that the blaze was "entirely avoidable". A public inquiry could take place before the inquests. The conclusion seemed clear to many-if the complaints and warnings had been made by tenants in any of the wealthier areas of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, something would have been done. "Come here! We want to see you", could be heard among the cries.

"At this time, we are not aware of any link between the fire and the exterior cladding to the tower".

Mustafa Almansur addressed the crowd just seconds before they charged for the doors of the town hall. Police were seen on stand-by not far away from the protesters.

London has a chronic housing shortage even in the best of times, and people fear being forced out of the city.

Residents of Grenfell Tower have handed a list of demands to the council, following the devastating blaze which killed at least 30 people. There are several theories, including the fire resistance of the cladding's material, but the construction group leading the refurbishment, Rydon, says it met all regulations. "I lost my home on Tuesday, people lost their lives on Tuesday".

The PM had earlier visited Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to meet staff and patients who were caught up in the fire.

Queen Elizabeth II and her grandson Prince William visited a sports center Friday that had been turned into a place of grieving and support for victims of the fire and their families. The premier must now demonstrate her leadership in front of a national tragedy that has exposed anger at the country's social divisions and years of budget cuts under her Tory party's government.

May will later chair a meeting on how the authorities can help affected communities and victims recover.

Twenty-four people were being treated in hospital, including 12 in critical care, he added. The number of victims is expected to grow.

Cowell hopes some big names will appear on the record, including Adele who was pictured at the site of the fire comforting those who had been affected.

The queen is meeting with volunteers Friday.

Located in the wealthy Kensington neighbourhood, the 24-storey public housing building and its 600 residents stood in stark contrast to the world around them. They also made a grim admission: A full accounting might be impossible because some victims may never be identified.

We plan to house residents of Grenfell Tower as locally as we can. The blaze spread rapidly, and three days later, officials are still searching for the missing.

"The figure of 58 are those who are missing and that we have to presume are dead", said Commander Stuart Cundy, a spokesman for London's Metropolitan Police.
