Champions Trophy MS Dhoni moulding Kedar Jadhav into a potential'Game Changer for India

Kohli added that the team with more intensity and passion won the all-important match in London.

Pakistan's Hasan Ali celebrates taking the wicket of India's Ravichandran during the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy Final between Pakistan and India, played at The Oval on June 18, 2017.

Kashmiris, who traditionally support Pakistan in cricket, especially against India, took to the streets after the win waving Pakistani flags and chanting "Jive Jive Pakistan (long live Pakistan)" as fireworks exploded over Srinagar's skies. On Sunday, in the sweltering sun of south London they were unplayable. Had he really expect Pakistan to crush India by 180 runs in the tournament final?

It got inexorably out of hands for Virat Kohli's side once Mohammad Amir dealt lethal blows in his first two overs.

Even Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the leader of the Kashmiri separatist Hurriyat Conference, checked in via Twitter to express his satisfaction at Pakistan's extraordinary and unexpected win in Champions Trophy final, the second-most prestigious event in world cricket, behind only the Cricket World Cup. India, though, has far more trophies.

It would have perhaps been a touch better if India had shown some wariness.

Made to bat first in the final, India posted 245, led by Sunil Gavaskar's 92.

It was indeed a fairytale moment for the Pakistani side who won the trophy against all odds. Miandad anticipated a yorker so stood in front of the crease. Their transformation since has been remarkable, however, as was summed up in the final here by the diving effort by Imad Wasim at deep square leg to end MS Dhoni's day on four. First with Sachin Tendulkar (52) then with Rohit Sharma (68), Kohli batted for nearly 47 overs to score 183 off 148 balls, including 22 boundaries.

Pakistan finished on 338 having lost four wickets, their second highest ODI score against India. That cost India 24 runs.

Afridi singled out Zaman for high praise.

"He's fine", Kohli said.

"Remember, this is the same team that barely qualified for the tournament, started as the lowest-ranked team in the fray, and was handed a 124-run drubbing in the opening match by India", he pointed out. "We knew the calibre of players we had so we just had to keep believing". "They motivated us, and it passed on to my boys".

"Congratulations to Team Pakistan on their great performance in winning #CT17 And how wonderful to watch Fakhar's raw talent in action", Pakistan cricket great Imran Khan tweeted.

Pakistan have completed the coveted quintuple - World Cup, U-19 World Cup, World T20, ICC Test Mace and now Champions Trophy.

"We've seen some really surprising results and it's been awesome for the fans to watch and for the players to be a part of", Kohli said. "They made us make those mistakes because of the way they were bowling and the way they applied the pressure in the field, as well, and we have no hesitations or shame in admitting that we could not play our best game today".

"Today's win shows that no one is favorite when it comes to India v Pakistan match in global cricket", said a beaming Mohammad Ashraf, who distributed candies among people on a street in Rawalpindi.
