Authorities arrested 18 people during a protest of the acquittal of a suburban Minneapolis police officer who shot and killed a black driver.

For their part, Yanez's lawyers praised the results and said there shouldn't have been charges in the first place. The vigil was held after St. Antho.

According to prosecutors, Yanez overreacted in the situation and Castile was not a threat to him.

She asked people if they remembered the Montgomery bus boycott, a protest against racial segregation on public transportation that ultimately led to a change in Alabama law. "It was very, very hard", Ploussard said, adding that he thought the jury delivered the right verdict.

Castile, a black motorist, was killed during a traffic stop last July by officer Jeronimo Yanez in Falcon Heights, a St. Paul suburb.

After five days of deliberations, the jury of seven men and five women, 10 of whom were white and two of whom were black, found Yanez not guilty of all counts, including two counts of intentional discharge of firearm that endangers safety.

Wiley added: "I can not stop crying for you, Philando", and Aduba wrote: "Truth lies somewhere here: until we value & speak for the lives of all people, we remain hinged to this chapter of history". Before Castile completed the sentence, Yanez interrupted and replied, "Okay" and placed his right hand on the holster of his gun. Castile was said to have told Yanez he was armed and had a permit to carry.

Rep. Cedric Richmond, chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, called it "an unjust insult to an unbearable injury". Diamond and her 4-year old daughter were in the vehicle with Philando when he was shot and witnessed the entire event. I am so disappointed in the state of Minnesota. She says a permanent memorial is being planned. Americans were stunned to see the video, live-streamed on Facebook, of his panicked girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, as blood spread on Castile's shirt. In the end, a few dozen people were left, and police managed to push them off the freeway. "As people across our city, county and country react to the jury's verdict, I urge each of us to move forward in a way that is peaceful and respectful of everyone - residents, demonstrators and police officers alike", he said. Police say 21 officers were hurt, none seriously.

Only one police officer in recent publicized cases is facing jail time.
