Railway track near London tower blaze closed due to debris risk

18 Junio 2017, 06:31 | Dolorita Barahona

The confirmed death toll from the Grenfell Tower fire in London has risen to 30, with 12 people still in a critical condition in hospital, police said.

"It's another reason why both the police and public inquiry must take into account gross negligence, which could result in criminal charges".

"The figure of 30 that I gave yesterday is the number that I know, sadly, have, at least, died".

The Telegraph collected some of the known names of the dead with pictures, mostly from the accounts of people searching for lost friends and family members.

The police stressed in a statement that "there is nothing to suggest the fire was started deliberately".

British Prime Minister Theresa May has ordered a judge-led full public inquiry into the incident.

"We want justice!", "Shame on you!", and "Killers!", the protesters shouted, as they scuffled with security guards in the lobby of the building, AFP reporters said.

The local Grenfell Action Grouphad claimed, before and during a major 10-million-pound refurbishment of Grenfell Tower a year ago, that the block constituted a fire risk and residents had warned that access to the site for emergency vehicles was "severely restricted".

The council office demonstration came as angry people chased after May's auto, shouting "coward" after her meeting with fire victims at St Clements Church close to Grenfell Tower. Many of these residences are owned by wealthy people overseas who buy London property for investment or residency purposes, but don't live in the property. "It is important to be frank - fires are still breaking out and conditions are very hard and hazardous for the emergency services in the upper levels of the building".

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince William met with volunteers who have been distributing supplies for those affected by the disaster.

When she left, she walked briskly straight from the church door to the auto.

"We need answers and we need answers now", a man said through a megaphone.

He also reiterated the Government's promise to rehouse those displaced by the fire within three weeks, either in Kensington, or neighbouring boroughs.

The Prime Minister pledged just £5m for former residents of the 24-storey building - in a borough where the average house price exceeds £1m.

A lawyer for the family told CNN that Trevisan spoke with her parents before she died, telling them: "I am going to heaven".

So as questions mount, what needs to be done to ensure tragedies like Grenfell Tower don't occur again and who is really to blame? A memorial wall has been created for people to write messages to the missing.

"My neighbor said he would hold him and bring him down", she told London's Evening Standard.

The Islington North MP said: 'I believe that the policies and priorities of your government in the arenas of social housing and public safety are legitimate targets for my criticism'.

Mrs May added: "There have been huge frustrations that people do not know who to talk to, that they can't get through on the council hotlines".
