Pence hires outside legal counsel

Vice President Mike Pence has hired outside legal counsel to help with congressional and the special counsel investigations into collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, The Washington Post reported, citing Pence's office.
Pence's office announced on June 15 that the vice president has hiredRichard Cullen, a partner at McGuireWoods LLP and a former United States attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, confirming a report by The Washington Post.
According to the Washington Post, "The process of hiring a lawyer took several weeks". But he may prove a critical witness in Mueller's probe, nonetheless.
Kushner - Trump's son-in-law - is one of several people close to the president who are "people of interest" in the investigation. In keeping with a new practice, she referred one after another to Trump's personal lawyer.
Pence has not come under any particular scrutiny over the course of the Department of Justice Russia investigation.
Pence's move follows a decision by President Donald Trump to hire outside counsel Marc Kasowitz and could signal the investigation is entering a new phase. Every time his opponent, vice-presidential candidate Tim Kaine, brought up a statement by Trump-a public, documented statement, the veracity of which Americans could easily validate-Pence did not embellish. After that report, Pence reiterated a previous statement that he first learned of Flynn's lobbying in March. Trump ultimately fired Flynn for misleading the vice president.
Cullen was special counsel to former Republican Sen. He dismissed concerns about the reduced funding, which are part of wider cuts that proposed throughout the government by Trump.
Comey told a Senate panel last week he believed Trump dismissed him to undermine the FBI's Russian Federation probe. They are building a case for firing Mueller.
But obstruction came into play after Trump fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey last month.
"I don't think it's for me to say whether the conversation I had with the President was an effort to obstruct", Comey said in his testimony. "Director Mueller's got extensive staff and authorities to investigate further".
"We need only look to the nation of Venezuela to see what happens when democracy is undermined".
The protesters cleared out shortly after Pence's motorcade arrived.
Protesters said policy issues like healthcare drove them to chant and hold signs.

But soon after the abrupt termination, Trump told NBC News that he had been going to fire Comey regardless of any recommendations. The president complained the probe is unfair and wondered why his defeated Democratic opponent wasn't getting the same scrutiny.
