NBC Connecticut won't air Alex Jones interview on Sunday

Kelly faced backlash this week for giving Jones a national television platform to share his far-right beliefs beyond his more than 2 million "InfoWars" radio show subscribers.

Before releasing the tapes Thursday night, Jones, 43, and Kelly, 46, reportedly spoke on the phone.

Kelly has been criticized for interviewing Jones.

News Chairman Andy Lack said the story will be edited with the sensitivity of its critics in mind.

WVIT, the CT station that includes Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown as part of its market, is refusing to air Sunday's episode of "Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly", AdAge's TVNewser reported Friday, citing an internal memo. She's in a tough situation either way, but it is important to ask serious questions of Alex Jones.

"Megan Kelly waltzed in here to Austin, Texas, and told me that she wasn't going to talk about Sandy Hook ... she wasn't going to talk about Islamic terror attacks, that she wanted to do a softball profile of Alex Jones", he said in the video.

Kelly's plans to broadcast the interview with Jones, Sunday, also cost her the role that she had as an emcee for Sandy Hook Promise, which was created to bring awareness to gun violence prevention after the 2012 massacre. JPMorgan Chase & Co. said Monday that it would pull all ads and digital spots from Kelly's show until after the interview airs.

In response, Kelly issued a statement, saying she was "disappointed" at the event organizers' decision.

"The group can not support Kelly or NBC's decision to give a platform to Jones and hopes NBC reconsiders its plan to broadcast the interview", said Nicole Hockley, co-founder and managing director.

The letter appears largely meant to apply more shame and pressure to NBC and Kelly.

Her interview quickly became a topic of discussion at a news conference CNN held to promote its morning show, "New Day".

"It just reminded me you're just like anybody, you're a dad, and go through the same things we go through, and I thought that would be an interesting story to tell... this is not going to be a contentious, gotcha exchange. I promise you that".

Why did Jones release the recordings?

"What I think we're doing is journalism", Kelly has said.

In the audio, Kelly can be heard promising multiple times that the interview between Kelly and Jones would be in a soft focus, and would absolutely not be a "hit piece". "We have a record of it".

Even more outrageously, he alleged that the massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School never happened, and the grieving parents are nothing more than actors playing a role. NBC has not said whether it will do so.
