Mr Cosby, 79, is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004.

The judge challenged McMonagle's requests to end the trial without a verdict, saying that for all he knows, the jury might be working toward an acquittal.

However, immediately after the ruling, prosecutors were quick to announce that they will retry the case, reports CNN. Overtly arrogant in collaborating with the district attorney. Cosby has denied all of the charges, and has only been criminally charged in the Constand case.

A jury deliberated for more than 52 hours over six days before declaring itself hopelessly deadlocked.

The jury appeared unable to agree on which version of the night in question to believe: Constand's or Cosby's. Spokeswoman for Cosby's wife, Camille said. "Heinously and exploitatively ambitious", the statement read.

"In my head I was trying to get my hands to move or my legs to move, but I was frozen and those [mental] messages didn't get there and I was very limp, so I wasn't able to fight him", she said.

Cosby did not testify but his version of the encounter was shown to jurors in the form of a police interview he did in 2005, as well as sworn depositions he gave in 2005 and 2006 during Constand's civil lawsuit.

Cosby, who gave the deposition as part of Constand's lawsuit against him, said he got seven prescriptions for the powerful sedative in the 1970s for the goal of giving them to women with whom he wanted to have sex.

But the jurors clearly struggled with their verdict, telling the judge on day four they were at an impasse.

Cosby remained stoic, while Constand embraced the person next to her.

Three counts of felony aggravated indecent assault, each covering a different aspect of the alleged crime.
