The spirits of those at this year's event were just as strong as when there were many participating, she explained. "Each team will be having a fundraiser at their tent,"she said". Each walker pledges to raise $2,620.

Funds raised help cancer patients and their families with expenses, as well as contribute to other causes supported by the American Cancer Society.

At this year's event in Belmont County, local Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor Dominic Alexander will cut the ribbon at 5 p.m. Saturday during the opening ceremony.

"We can save the American Cancer Society money, so more of the money we raise will go to the American Cancer Society, we cut the costs in half", Kolwelter said.
